An experienced grant-seeker once acquired money to build a fence along one of the creeks here to keep out cattle (that weren't even in that area) and wild pigs (who can go under the fence.) The only animals that have trouble with the fence are deer, and they manage, too, but it slows their access pattern. So the property owner and grant-seeker spent grant money to have a fence built, one that serves no purpose at all (supposedly to protect a salmon-bearing stream) because the land-owner upstream did not, and was not required to, build a fence to keep his cows out of the creek. Same creek, farther upstream. Go figure. And how much, I wonder, did that cost the government to build that lengthy fence? There are many other examples of ill-spent government money, which comes from where? Let the people who are totally sympathetic to saving the overpopulation of feral horses do the donating. I have to be more practical than that. If a population of animals strains the resources, then some of the animals must go. We had to reduce our cow herd to less than I would have liked, simply because there isn't enough grass for them and hay prices are in the stratosphere in CA. I love all animals, but I also realize we, as a nation, cannot support all of them. The cost of supporting the overpopulation of feral horses is but one of the contributing factors to the national debt. There are a great many more, and they all eat away at the monetary base of our nation. Sorry to disappoint......
