12 hours max time for a 50 includes holds, so for example if you've  
got 1.5 hours of holds, ride time can only be 10.5 hours.

I know this b/c my first three 50s were ride times of 9:53 (7 min  
before max), 8:43 (a little over an hour before max), and 9:48 (11 min  
before max).  ;-)

As I told Lynn this morning, being out on trail that long gives you a  
great comparison if/when you start riding faster.  After our first  
6-hour 50 Zephyr and I felt like a million bucks.  Those extra hours  
take a toll... but they were the right thing to do!

Thus speaks someone who is riding her first 75 this weekend and plans  
a ride time of 9-10 hours.  I'm gonna be one hurtin' puppy on Sunday.
