Re: [RC] Ponying - Barbara MoultonMy last ever attempt to pony now 2 year old Bonnie the diva brat was when she was only 4 months old- using Wintec stockpro aussie saddle in the arena I was trying the DIE before I let go theory because she had to really learn this before I could dare taking her out on the no traffic relatively safe trail behind the stable, the only place I planned to pony her. Lots of jerking at first but just when I thought she had got the hang of it I found out too late she was only planning the supreme payback for the indignity I was forcing on her. She was finally nicely trotting along by her mother's right side for a couple laps and I let myself relax. She suddenly stopped like a mule and most all of the 12'lead rope ran through my gloved hand- then she bolted forward and crossed in front of Joy's chest, hit the end of the rope to the inside of the arena, doubled back and circled to the right side almost spinning me out of the saddle. I did drop the rope then, she won but wasn't done with us yet. Bonnie still had her victory lap to perform. She galloped away from us all the way to the gate then spun and charged back at us full speed dragging the lead rope. Like a kamikaze pilot she took aim and earned her new nickname "flyby Bonnie" as she ran past she actually poked her muzzle, head, neck under my left leg/saddleflap and buzzed us as fast as she could. If I had been circling the other way and she had forced my right leg ( with hip AVN) that far out it could have been a disaster. That's when I decided I don't have what it takes to ride and pony at the same time and have NO desire to aquire that skill. I am sure Bonnie is pleased with herself but that isn't the hill I want to die on ( or risk a horse injury) Barbara Joy says "my baby is perfect" Bonnie says "mmmwwwhahaha" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
