Betsy, the air isn't that bad down here.  Fireworks is about 20 miles SE of our place and although the air has a funny color to it, it's not really that smoky.

I'm in California too, on the SF peninsula and I'm hoping to get my horse in the Fireworks ride in Santa Cruz.  Headed down to the clinic this weekend there.  The smoke here makes the sky white and the visibility hazy, but I don't feel anything in my lungs and the newspaper describes the air quality here as "moderate"

Horse has been ridden only once, lightly, this week and she was very very hyper.  Should I worry about the weekend's air?  The way she acted yesterday I'm more just worried about getting bucked off, I guess it's a great time to experience "Race Brain", remind me to keep her head up and my heels down...
