My mom rode it in 1970. She was training
diligently with Paige Harper for months, 2-3x a week. She was a single mom
and bartered with me about her being gone a lot. She said if I was patient
and supported her and didn't complain (I was 7 years old) about her being gone
so much, she'd take me to Disneyland after Tevis.
So, the week after the ride, we drove to Orange
County. 3 days after she rode, we walked in the gate of Disneyland and she
asked me what I wanted to do first. Of course I said, "I want to go on the
mule ride!"
Getting on that mule for the 1-2 mile trek Mom said
was one of the hardest things she'd ever done. :)
