Re: [RC] Rider weight vs horse size - Barbara McCraryIf your mare even begins to represent "sturdy", the answer to your question is NO. I have ridden a couple of 14.2 horses that were sturdy and well muscled, as opposed to spidery or skinny, and each one was one of the best horses I ever rode. My husband placed a very close second on one of them, and he ride HVYWT. The other one took me through Tevis twice. Your mare is definitely not too small for your riding weight, because at 900#, she has to be sturdy at the height.Barbara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLF" <carrie.kitley@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, July 07, 2008 1:51 PM Subject: [RC] Rider weight vs horse size Ok, here's a new topic I'd like to gather opinions on . . . My mare is 14.2 hh and weighs about 880 to 900 lbs or so. Personal body weight plus gear and pack weight is probably about 185 total. Even if my mare is conditioned properly, do you think this is too much weight for her to do a 50? Or am I just a softy and worrying too much about her carrying said weight? Lol Just curious.
