I was in Iceland recently and had a chance to ride an Icelandic pony. Those little suckers grow up running around on lumpy lava rock which would have KO'd my 2 Arabs in five minutes. I could see WHY they were gaited, because if they trotted or cantered, they probably would have all broken legs ages ago.
