Re: [RC] why didn't you - Melinda Faubel

LOL - that's an excellent idea (the stopping). Made me grin just thinking about it....

In this case there was NO room to move over and let anyone pass, all of us were in the same boat.....just a long line of stop and go up a hill....I thought I had started late enough to avoid the pack, but evidently didn't....

If you rear-ended me, then you were following too
close/were not in control etc. I've only had this issue
once. 2nd day of Wild west, single track near the
beginning, up a hill. A long string of riders and we
were stop starting. I was leaving plenty of room
between me and the next horse. The rider behind me
continually was in my space. I warned her several
times. The 5th time ...

Just out of curiousity...

Why didn't you just let her pass you? Then the problem would have gone
away.

Sometimes there isn't room to let people who are persistently crowding
you from behind to pass you, and the trail won't allow it, but I have
found that taking the first opportunity to do so is usually the most
prudent thing to do.

If an opportunity to let a rider pass simply does not exist and is not
expected for quite some time, an alternate way to deal with the problem
of the rider behind not heeding your request to back away is to simply
stop until they do....and you can even blame it on your horse by saying,
"I am so sorry, my horse just won't go when she is being crowded like
that." (as you surrepticiously back your horse into the offender while
pretending to ask her to move forward:)).
