[RC] Permission not to pass (was: Fireworks ride...) - k s swigart

Sandy said:

it is also important in a case like this that if one desires
to join another rider or even more, draft off of them,
ASK PERMISSION! Do NOT just assume it is okay
to just pull in behind someone and let them pull you in.

I simply cannot agree with this. I do NOT consider it the
responsibility of people behind me, when they catch up with me on the
trail, to have to ask me for permission NOT to pass.

If I don't want me behind me, I can pull off the trail and let them go
by.

Or, I can ask, "Do you want to pass?" And they can say, "No, if it is
okay with you I would prefer to stay where I am."

And then, if I don't want them there, I can tell them that it isn't okay
because I am riding a horse that is not properly broke to handle such
situations.

This doesn't mean that I think it is okay to tail gate and ride RIGHT
behind me.

It does mean that it is okay to ride behind the people in front of you
without asking for permission to do so. If I (or my horse) am bothered
by it, I can let you know...and get out of your way.

Actually, I do this even with people who are tailgaiting.

If you don't want people behind you, get out of their way.
