RE: [RC] [RC] Decade team Recognition Updated - Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLFBy time constraints, I meant time to condition. I'm not just going to go out and throw my horse into a 50 without proper conditioning time invested first. THAT is what I don't have time for. I have a fulltime job, 2 kids, family, etc. I certainly have time to sit on my horse for 8 or 9 hours in one day, but my horse deserves the time invested to make sure she can complete. I can't see how one can be so time contrained as to not be able to do a slow 50. I do slow 50s and will often go for months just riding my horse once a week, maybe 15 miles at a time. Heck, I've done 100s with once-a-week conditioning. <G> Not fast 100s, but we completed. What about all of us LD-ers that aren't able to do 50's for one reason or another? (time constraints, mostly). :( Seems to me like the LD riders are sort of considered to be "less than" in the scope of AERC. Decade Teams are defined as "These riders have ridden their own horse every year in a 50 mile and up endurance ride for at least ten ride seasons." It's an excellent goal recognizing longevity for the horses in our sport. http://aerc.org/long_table_list.asp The list started in 2003 as a volunteer effort by Karen and now includes teams that completed their tenth endurance year together in 2006-2008. Interviews with the riders are a key part of the experience and we can all learn something from these long enduring teams. Interviews are being added to the latest list as they are received from the riders so check the link regularly. Congratulations to the riders and their horses who achieved this recognition. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
