Re: [RC] Auburn-horrible craigslister - Lynne GlazerHey, not HSUS, who has nothing to do with animal welfare, they're animal rights people and scary under their façade. Maybe you meant a local animal control agency. In general horsedom, it seems as if there's a lot of ignorance and not a lot of hope if people aren't intellectually curious, won't read books or websites or don't have knowledgeable friends. I always encourage new horse owners to board their horses first, so they learn from exposure to others, both the good and the bad. There is no substitute for discernment, if they don't have it in life they won't have it with horses--figuring out who are the bad actors out there-- dishonest trainers, abusive owners, incompetent farriers, negligent property owners, etc.. Boy, what a bummer that last paragraph is--Monday morning, and let's hope many horses are being rescued by legitimate caring people during this crisis. These are tough times, we're squeezed in all directions. Our feedstore is completely out of Bermuda hay and doesn't know when they'll be getting more. I have about a month's supply, but it's making me re-evaluate my procedure of buying new hay when I have a week's left. Gonna stuff another month's worth in there as soon as they get some. I'm not sure how the situation would exactly lend itself to warrant this, but isn't it worth a try? My fear is, they will eventually end up starving them just to save money.
