[RC] Entry fees - Michael MaulIn response to:"but I darn sure won't attend ridesthat keep increasing entry fees. I've heard all sorts of excuses as to why the fees are being driven up, but I don't buy into it as I was a Ride Manager myself for several years." My personal view on this is different and here's why. The ride I attended last w/e was somewhat closer than my average ride but here's what my costs were. 300 miles each way at 12.5 mpg with diesel at an average of $4.70/gal That's a fuel cost of about $226. The ride entry fee was $80. There are other costs associated with the trip like tire wear that are real but much smaller. If the ride entry fee had been $90 rather than $80 - this would have been insignificant compared to the fuel. Not being able to pick the lowest cost fuel station on the road makes a much bigger difference in my trip cost than $10 in an entry fee. $10 out of $306 is a 3% variation and far less than the price variation I saw in fuel - $4.59 to $4.85. Yes - if your ride was 50 miles away - it might make a larger difference but that's true for vary few of us. Ride managers pay for fuel for the many trips they make to prepare for the rides. The porta-potty delivery and pickup costs more because of fuel. Everything we buy today has increased in cost due to the change in the price of oil. Ride managers are seeing real increases in what it costs them and the services they get for the rides. They need to recover their costs to keep putting on rides for us to attend. I'm *really* happy that they continue to put on rides for us to attend and I'm happy to pay a few dollars more for the chance to ride.
