RE: [RC] [RC] Man o' War - heidiOh my gosh I love this picture! Thank you Barb! I had a client that wanted to breed his QH mare to Cejlon and race the foal on the quarter horse circuit. Not being able to register a half Arab / QH as a running quarter was obviously a problem for him. I found it odd that you can have a half TB/QH as a running quarter. No one cared to listen to my reasoning that Arabian was in the foundation of BOTH breeds! Sad because I think the foal would have been absolutely phenomenal being a Doc Bar grand get. Actually, there was a time when Arabians in this country WERE registered with the Jockey Club, and there may still be a small handful of "Jockey Club eligible" Arabians around (although one probably could not now get them AJC-registered, since the process has not been kept up). At any rate, one notable Arabian sire, Gudea, was used extensively as a QH sire "back in the day" thanks to his AJC registration. He sired several purebred Arabians, one or two registered TBs, and a whole bunch of QHs. There was a terrific article on him in Western Horseman back in the 1960s.
