I saw the article in Equus also, and feel the same, this has merit for further study.  Sure would be nice to have contact with Dr. Ross for possible AERC "sampling studies."  I'm sure something could be worked out.  Researchers are always looking for new subjects to study.
 
As far as TB racing, I think the main problem is starting them too young.  But probably just as big of a problem is a relatively small gene pool.   Weak bones to start with, combined with immaturity of 2 and 3 yr olds racing, and top it off with a BIG body.  A 17 hand, 3-yr old filly, she didn't have a chance.  At least she was quickly euthanized and out of pain asap.  Still, it makes me cry tears of shame.
 
I think the TB breed would be well served to let some good Arabian genes back in to their gene pool.  Improved bone, improved hooves, improved longevity, could result.
