Re: [RC] [RC] Electrolytes - Carla RichardsonI've used salt blocks for years, my horses lick them with no problems. At a recent ride, we came across a salt block set out next to the water tank, left there for the cows. I took my horse to it, to see if he'd be interested. He knew what it was, and took a couple of licks, before he went to the water, but he wasn't really interested in the salt. Luckily, he is a great drinker. BTW, I ride very slowly (understatement!), this was our 4th, and 5th, 50 mile ride that weekend. I did not give him any e-lytes on the ride. We did two back-to-back 50's, well actually a 55 and a 50. He did get his Ultium/beet pulp mash (Ultium has added NaCl, as well as Ca and P) and all the hay he wanted, at the trailer. Most of the rides in our part of the world have very little (if any) grass, it's dry country. I think Steph is right. I also think many people may be over e-lyting their horses.
