Many years ago my brother-in-law and friends went
every year to eastern Montana antelope hunting. It was common knowledge
antelope wouldn't jump fences.
Then BLM began fencing some of the grazing
allotments. The first couple years hunting was just a matter of seeing the
band run up aginst the fence and choosing a target. Then they
learned to jump and hunting was back to really having to hunt
(;>)
I guess they are more adaptable than expected
when they have to be.
Loved the story, but I've never seen antelope jump a fence.
I was amazed by that statement. Fences are a major problem for
them here in Wyoming because they can't jump fences and they try to crawl
under them and often get caught or tangled and die that way. The newer
highway fences often raise the bottom wire so they can crawl under.
