[RC] Reasons for tying up - Kristi SchaafKaren listed a bunch of reasons, but don't forget to consider PSSM (polysaccharide storage myopathy). We had a 1/2 Arab that had successfully done 50's for a few years before he started tying up a lot. After much online research and then finally a muscle biopsy, he was diagnosed with PSSM (also known as EPSM). In his case, it was severe enough that he was retired as a pasture pet that kids ride occasionally. A sad day all around when he could no longer do distance rides, because he LOVED them. : - ( Drs. Valberg (Oregon) and Valentine (Minnesota) are considered the two top experts on the condition.
