Re: [RC] Bears on the trail - Sisu West Ranch"...bear she saw was brown and therefore it had to have been a grizzly..."It is unfortunate that color is the supposed distinction. Telling the difference is not always easy. If you want to learn, the MT FWP has a website to teach the difference: http://fwp.mt.gov/bearid/default.html The distinction is important. Griz are possibly bluffing when they attack, and you may survive if you "play dead" Black bear do not attack as frequently, but when they do they mean business. Your only hope is to fight back. By the way, the best defense in all cases is to avoid the encounter. The first step is to be aware of your surroundings. The common thread among survivors of attacks (Both animal and HUMAN) is a statement "I didn't even know the (fill in attacker) was around until I was (fill in the mode of attack)" Ed Ed & Wendy Hauser 2994 Mittower Road Victor, MT 59875 (406) 642-9640 ranch(at)sisuwest(dot)us =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
