[RC] Bear on the trail- to Ranelle Rubin - Cynthia LeDoux-BloomRanelle, your life is in far greater danger each time you drive your SUV up and down Hwy 80 than your chance encounter with the one rattler and two-three bears that you've seen over all the years that you have ben riding, eh? As far as the bear coming toward you, the bear was likely wanting to take the easiest road most traveled which happened to be the one that you were also using. Wildlife conserve energy by using roads and trails rather than going "cross country". Hence, why biologists set up remote cameras at trail/road intersections when the want to record species present. Ditto with the rattler. Snakes, use trails because building trails removes the tree canopy above, providing direct sunlight onto the trail, which they need to thermoregulate [coldblooded]. Black bears are known to have honest, simple communication. Here is a site describing bear behavior. http://www.nps.gov/archive/lacl/bear_behavior_field_guide.htm Count yourself blessed. How nice to ride in a place with wildlife, how nice that you've had this training experience. We're going riding now, sure hope we see some bears today! -Cynthia =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
