I live in Foresthill and encounter bears
on my property and on the trail a lot. If I spot the bear I yell at
it and talk loud at it or them and it helps to give the horse
confidence if he thinks I can be meaner than the bear, yes my horses have
spooked at them but not to bad if they think that I am not affraid and I will
take care of him. Bears that are to friendly or dangerous are usually
killed, not to many places left to relocate them. We also have mountain
lions. I don't always like running into wild life that my horse can
spook at but we have to share the trail with them as well as bikes. I'
just thankfull that we dont have wolves or grizzles.
