Re: [RC] Breeding Hybrids (was: Spanish Mustangs) - Barbara McCraryThis message struck a chord in me. For starters, some of the best dogs, for example, are hybrids or just mutts, so I would hate to see all dog breeding, mainly accidents, ceased and only purebreds allowed to reproduce. Try as I will to name one, there are very few purebred breeds that I would want to own. Those that I would like may be purebreds but are working stock dog breeds. So, about horses...one of the best horses I've ever ridden was, reportedly, Arab X QH. He was small, about 14.3 and just a lovely horse who took me through Tevis twice. My husband's best horse was a completely accidental cross between a Morgan stallion and a Percheron (of the lighter type) mare. He was a phenomenal endurance horse. So sometimes the accidental breedings are exceptional...hybrid vigor if you will, but not all purebreds are great just because they are purebreds from some noted parentage.
