[RC] Rice Bran and Doping/forbidden medication? - Stefanie PraschHello everyone, i have a question how you handle this in the US. I often read that it is quite common to feed rice bran to endurance horses. Some horse food companies over here started to add rice bran to their horse products as well. Rice bran and rice oil contain Gamma-Oryzanol, a substance that might enhance thes testosterone level in a horse. But even at a normal testosterone level, Gamma-Oryzanol is on the FEI Medication B list and not prohibited in a horse. Our national rules are similiar. So it is forbidden to feed even a handful of rice bran, because of the gamma-oryzanol, but on the other hand, they can't proof the substance in the horse yet. They can only proof a high testosterone level. and you have to feed a lot of rice bran to have that effect. How do you handle this in the US for the AERC-rides? Thanks and happy trails Stefanie from Germany =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
