Re: [RC] [RC] Winter hair and saddle pads - Kathy Mayeda

I would wait till he sheds out before you judge the pad.   But it still may not work for him.

Beau really hates anything but a woolback fleece pad.  I've tried Supracor, Dixie Midnight, Equipedic, etc. and he gets a sour attitude with these pads.  But that is just him.  He's the 5% of the horses they always talk about that their pad doesn't work on.

Was this topic discussed before...I don't remember.
Today I rode my horse with his new Specialized Saddle.  He seems to be happy with it, but toward the end of the ride, I could tell he was beginning to hurt somewhere.  Upon arriving home and stripping the saddle, I found the saddle pad, a Haf without inserts, had scrubbed his winter hair into balls and wads in the loin area and these wads were pulling against the hair roots.  No wonder the poor horse was hurting.  Any suggestions for a solution?  I thought about a wool pad perhaps?  Any other ideas?
