Sadly, the only time I witnessed this, the 21yr old mare had
cancer. She was pastured with my horses in 3’ tall grass, fed about 2
gallons of oats daily and still continued to lose weight. The owner thought it
was the hard winter and having had a July foal that had stayed with her during
the winter. Tests proved otherwise. I hope for you there is another reason for
the weight loss.
