Re: [RC] Water horse with gutter runoff?. - Oak Lawn ArabiansWe collect rainwater off of our roofs into rainwater barrels. We use that (in the Spring-Fall) to water our horses. I can gravity feed the water to my water troughs. You have to be able to by-pass the first couple of gallons of runoff during a rain event due to debris and dirt from the roof and gutters. We don't filter because after that first diverted water, the water is really clear and we set up our barrels so that what does get into the water, settles to the bottom of the barrel and we use that for garden watering when cleaning out the barrels. It is amazing how much water you can collect during a rain event. My husband and I have talked about installing an underground water tank to hold all that water in case of drought. It is sometimes 200-300 gallons or more. Wondering if anyone has set up a manner to water their horses with water runoff from gutter/roof, etc. If you do.... How do you have it set up? Do you have it filtered or not? Do you treat it if it's in a very large container (like 200+ gallon container)? thanks, Stacy Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now.
