Re: [RC] Stagg's dream...... - Truman PrevattWhile this used to be quite common, it seems that there was concern about horse deaths - after the Spain ride a few years ago and the pendulum swung the other way. There were also some issues in Kansas. Paddy had a positive experience but not every leased horse had such a great ride. One has to ask the following question - at the end of the day what is the sport about. A human showing up and riding a leased horse or a human developing his horse so they can go compete as a team? If the horse is not the paramount member of the team then why are we doing it? The beauty of AERC endurance is it IS about the horse and rider team. That is why I was drawn to the sport and the prevalence of leased horses and the emphasis that FEI endurance tends to place on the rider over the horse is the very I am no longer an AERC-I member after over 16 years of being a member. I personally would like to see a "back to the future" where foreign riders frequently leased horses in the host country like in the earlier World Championships. That created camaraderie. Just ask Patti Pizzo who leased her wonderful horse Savaq to Brazilians for the '96 Worlds in Kansas. After he did so well, Patti and the Brazilians were dancing on the tables at the post ride dinner. However that is probably the idealistic dreamer in me. -- “It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are.
