You would need to ask OSU if they can diagnose it....and the will probably tell you that there is no way for them to know if they can diagnose it until you bring them the horse. I am sure that OSU has a telephone, so call them up and ask THEM. And they won't be able to tell you if it is something that can be treated until you have a diagnosis. Can a bigtime equine center x-ray a shoulder? I don't know about OSU, but the ones around here can x-ray it. However, the x-ray may not tell you anything about nerve damage...or anything else for that matter. But most "bigtime equine centers" have other diagnostic equipment than x-rays. And should I put him up in a stall or let him stay out in the fields? No way to answer this question until you have a diagnosis. Although, the fact that the condition seems to be progressing while you have him out in the field suggests that you might want to consider doing something else (but something else might be "work him harder" and see if he works out of it as easily as it might be "stall rest"). Just getting the diagnosis may be expensive (but you know it can't be done in the field, because your vet has already told you that), and you may get a diagnosis that says "there is nothing we can do to fix it." You have to decide how much money you want to spend on diagnoses and/or on treatments that may or may not work. "Stall rest" would be a really cheap treatment to try. It may not be the right one though. Cheaper than Adequan (which seems an odd choice to me for "nerve damage" anyway, but it may have some off label uses that I don't know about????). Personally, _I_ would try stall rest just so I have one more piece of information to give the clinic if I DO decide to spend the money on a diagnosis even if it doesn't work. You can see whether it gets better or worse, or stays the same. kat Orange County, Calif. :) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
