RE: [RC] lame colt/Adequan - Jannelle Wilde & Adam FalkThe bend equine clinic may be able to take an x-ray of the shoulder, I do not know if that is closer. We had a young mare that had a nerve injury to her face and could not chew hay!! It was the nerve that runs down the bone that sticks out on the side of the face. She was given soup food for several months so that she did not chew on it and she has completely recovered except that some times she pouts funny on that side when she does not get her way. We also do not worm on that side because she does not like to be messed with on that side. The bottom line is that a nerve can heal if it is allowed to and not reinjured. I am not sure where the nerve is that may be affected on your colt so do not know if confinement is the best solution. Adam Jannelle Wilde & Adam Falk 584 Romie Howard Rd. I have a 10 month old colt who has come up with a huge limp. No sign of injury or swelling - hooves fine according to farrier. He has a great appetite and shows no reluctance to walk/trot/ canter out in the field. If I touch his shoulder though, he pins his ears. I took him to the vet who suspects a radial nerve injury from a kick from one of the other horses. He started him on Adequan - so far has had 3 injections, four days apart. I see no improvement at all - in fact last night he started dragging his hoof and crossing it over the other leg - weird! but today its just his normal limpy walk. Questions - if it is the radial nerve, is it likely to resolve with time? Is there anything I can do to get a solid diagnosis? OSU is 4 hours away but I will take him there if it is something that can be treated. Can a bigtime equine center x-ray a shoulder? And should I put him up in a stall or let him stay out in the fields? My vet kind of shrugs to all my questions, except to say the shoulder couldnt be x-rayed. I didnt think to ask him if he meant just down here or if it couldnt be done, period. DianeD, OK -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
