I'm sending healing thoughts to your cat (& your bank account!).  I 
don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but Californians 
seem only too ready to solve conflicts by violent means instead of just 
talking over the issue.  (I'm also a Californian.)  In my little bitty 
community 2 neighbors had been disputing the property line for years. 
It ended when one neighbor shot the others (husband and wife) to death! 
 Lives ruined over something that surely had a common sense solution. 
Here's hoping you and your neighbor can work things out!!!
