[RC] Little Endurance Horses (was: the weight of horse and rider) - k s swigartKathy said: I have a 4 yr old, 13.2 (almost.3) Arab/mustang filly that I'd hoped to be my endurance horse someday. I know I've heard it before that her size is fine, I've worried a little about my weight being too much for her. Including tack & full water bottles, we're around 170, so I'll keep working on her and seee what happens. When Lauren Horn borrowed Windy (my little 13.1 hh ~600 lb pony) to do her first LD ride on, she was concerned that she would be too big for her (Lauren said she would be riding as a heavyweight, she did not tell me what that weight would be, and I didn't ask). I told her not to worry about it. She won one of Terry Wooley-Howe's BDAT score "Best Condition" Awards at the ride. Oh yeah, and John Parke's 13.1 hh (more than 600 lb) pony has done over 10,000 miles. Whereever did people get the idea that horses need to be big to do endurance???? kat Orange County, Calif. :) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
