Re: [RC] Weight of Horse and Rider - rides2farWhat do you think is the best explanation for why my horse met criteria> faster with less cooling required despite the fact that she arrived at> all the vet checks sooner so was going faster down the trail?Because I weighed in at 25 lbs less than Bruce, because my horseweighed> in at 400 pounds less than Bruce's, or because they were of different> breeds and/or different metabolic types, or something else entirely????> Like she has more surface area per pound (in addition to being light,> she is also very slight of build so the distance from her core to the> surface is much less than most horses) than his horse and therefore is a> more efficient cooler??? I'd have to say "all of the above"...and another huge variable is "Intent of the rider". I can't go with the "total weight carried" argument. An extreme test of that would be a 100 lb. man carrying a 60 lb. pack vs. a 170 lb. man. Who is at a disadvantage? Are all 170 pounders equal? Some are knock kneed, 5' tall stumps. Others are perfectly built athletes. Does the weight they're carrying feel the same to them? Way too many variables to blame one in my opinion.
