Re: [RC] Ride Managers -- Question - Joe LongBarbara McCrary wrote:It _is_ permitted that a RM ride his/her own ride, provided there is a competent alternate RM actually managing the ride on that day. It is also inappropriate for a RM or his/her family members to win the ride. It looks really bad... It is furthermore inappropriate for said RMs or family to receive any preferential treatment from the vets, just because the riders are RMs or family of them. When I was managing rides, I would often ride while my wife Robbie would be the Day Manager. It became my policy that I would not finish first on my own rides, even if I had to hold back. Then I started not standing for Best Condition either -- more important, IMO, as a member of the ride manager's family standing for BC puts the vet in a difficult position (as he's being paid by the RM). Even if he's 100% objective, it can have the appearance of a conflict of interest.
