[RC] 20 Year Horses - Bruce Weary DCMike--I know a horse that is one year shy of qualifiying as a 20 year horse. He is in his 19th year of endurance, with 7,480 total miles, completing 132 of 134 rides, numerous multi-day rides, and 14 of 16 100 mile rides. His name is Rafuro HCC #6477, and he is owned and ridden by my friend Ron Barrett. I just went riding with Ron and Rafuro this weekend, and that horse, at 26, eats up the trail at 11 mph, always wanting to know what's on the other side of the hill. He is Hyannis bred, and seemingly indestructible. Ron is a marathoner, and has run the Western States 100 twice. He runs a lot with "Raf," and he plans to do some more 50's on Raf this season. They may shoot for a 20th year as well. I wouldn't bet against them. Incidentally, the only pulls Raf has had, were at the Tevis.
