[RC] sideclips and hot shoeing - Jay RandleHi AllWhere we train it is quite hilly, with lots of rough rocky patches, and I have found using side clips tends to damage the hoof by bruising a lot more than when only using a front clip. I think this is from the slight movement of the hoof wall when the horse is scrambling over rocks and sliding down hills. Also, as it is very dry here, we never hot shoe, as hot shoeing tends to dry the hoof out more! We re-shoe approximately every 4 - 5 weeks.
