The problem with a contributor who doesn't follow a "No Ads"
policy is that the other vendors--who are basically in competition
with the misbehaving actor--feel that they are being put in a competitive
disadvantage that will lose them sales if they don't break the rule and
advertise, too.  Moreover, people see the ads coming through and
think that Ridecamp is an "Ads OK" listserv, and start sending their
ads in, too.  Classic "tragedy of the commons."

And yes, there is a slippery slope of public
service/announcement-->shameless OT self-promotion. However, HHAAH is an
official AERC sponsor, comes to all the major rides, and has excellent
products and customer service. I was thrilled to see their post that the CD


I think we've done a pretty good job of defining the two difficult extremes of 
the
poles on this issue.

May we all navigate wisely between them.
