Re: [RC] OT- Humane Society of the United States - Barbara McCrary
My daughter used to raise pigs when
she was in 4-H many years ago. The crates are "farrowing crates", used
when the sow gives birth. Piglets are small, sows are huge, and they are
careless. They tend to lie down on top of the piglets and crush them,
hence the sows are put into crates during the birthing (farrowing)
process. I know, because I stitched up many a piglet whose
skin the sow ripped open with her hooves. After the piglets had a
little size and strength, the sow was taken out of the crate. We never
thought of it as cruel, merely protection for the young.
They are finally getting success in stamping out puppy mills and the
inhumane pig gestation crates that don't even allow the animal to turn or
move. Do you actually want these cruel practices to
continue?
