Re: [RC] [RC] Snowballs - Carla RichardsonIt depends on the temperature -- sometimes there's no problem with riding in the snow, it doesn't stick. With really dry snow, there's often no problem, but wet heavy snow can be a problem. It's like you say, your horse will end up walking on snowballs, NOT good -- can strain tendons and ligaments and result in slipping, sliding, falls, injuries, to both of you. I usually wait til it's softer, then less problems. Be really really careful about ice under the snow -- you won't see it, and your horse will slip and can fall with you. This will happen if it warms up then refreezes, or if it has rained, frozen to get ice, then snows on top of it. The snow will insulate it, the ice doesn't melt, you have major problems then, until it snows enough that it's deeper and you don't reach the ice. I don't mind riding in the snow, in fact it's fun, but ice is a no-go for me.
