[RC] feeding on the ground- a caution - Sheila_LarsenYes feeding on the ground (or with their head down) is a good thing.. However they can ingest sand, decomposed granite, etc. Yes Amber is lucky that she hasn't had a problem with colic. The newest Equus magazine did have a caution about using tires to contain the hay. It appears that as the tire wear through time the bits of metal from the steel belted radial tires have been known to break off and be ingest causing ulcers/abcesses in the mouth as the metal works its way through. They didn't talk about metal the horse actually may ingest but I assume it could penetrate the intestines or cause the beginnings of an entrolith. And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.
