RE: Re: [RC] protective vests - Debbie ParsonsI've been wearing the Tipperary Eventer vest whenever I ride for over 3 years now, after breaking several ribs when my not-so-trusty fine Arab charger did a hard spook and spin at a canter after spying a prehistoric petrified giant forest wood snake lying beside the trail (silly me, I thought it was a log!). It's flexible and comfortable enough that I can wear it for 50 mile rides without feeling like the turtle that my ride times say I am. And I am able to tolerate wearing it in the summer in FL. Probably on a comfort level, it's one of the better ones, but it may not offer the best protection for fragile bones due to the flexibility and lightness. Still, a vest that offers top protection won't be worth anything if it is too miserable to wear and you end up leaving it in the tack room. If you go to www.chronicleforums.com and go into the Eventers section and do a search on vests, you'll find many discussions of pros and cons on a variety of styles. If the search doesn't come up with enough info, post the question and you'll get plenty of feedback to help with your search and decision. I need the strongest vest I can find as I have osteoporosis. (No, I am not giving up riding - just need to make adjustments) Any help will be greatly appreciated.
