Re: [RC] Long distance riding and jeans - rides2far

I did some 50's in jeans. Never really had much problem with the bulk
under the knee. Wore older soft jeans and I don't think I grip with my
knees. I

. The "tapered leg", "slim leg" styles work best.
If there is a tendency to work up, use an under the instep strap to
prevent the wrinkles.

Only problem I had with jeans other than it sucks to have them on when
they're wet, was them riding up. At the time I went for the Punky
Brewster look and tied bandanas around my ankles. James Barnett (look up
his record) wears Liberty Overalls with duct tape around the ankles.

Anyone ridden in > sweat pants?

Picture them soaking wet.

  3. A cowboy told me that's what chaps are for -- ??

Can't imagine why adding big leather wrinkles over small cotton wrinkles
would be considered an improvement. Talk about hot too! I had an old man
in our horse club inform me that *real* endurance riders wore chaps. What
can you say to somebody like that when you've been going to rides for 20
years and they haven't, but they want to tell you what everyone does? I
just practiced my "You are an idiot" look.

I just can't bring myself to wear soft fabric between me and the
trees and thorn brush. {;>) I can see $$$ left on the brush,
with jeans the stickers just slide off.

The only real problems I've had were with tights that were loose.
Something would snag them and tear. The snug ones are so flat the stuff
seems to glance off of them. If I have to ride with briars I carry a
stick to lift them up as I go by. Leave some leaves on the end and you
have a flyswat/briar lifter multi-use tool.

I was an Art major in college and had to spend my fair share of time
drawing nudes. I hate to tell you guys this, but I can tell how you're
built even when you wear a big loose "Weight Watchers advertisement"
scarf fat dress. Once you got over that "Who was I fooling" phobia,
wearing tights is no big deal. I do feel sorry for Josie's boyfriends who
come to the house and catch a glimpse of their teacher coming in from a
ride in tights. They may be scarred for life but that's not my problem.

If they want to ride in jeans, let them. They've probably got some lumps
& bumps on their girth attachment or stirrup buckles, etc. that they can
smooth out and make them more comfortable than they were before. I never
noticed jeans being uncomfortable until I rode in tights, then I couldn't
turn back.
