Re: [RC] shoeing in vet school - Truman PrevattI am blessed with a really good farrier. I think what separates the good ones from the really good ones is the really good ones keep up. They go to farrier clinics. They subscribe and read the farrier journals. They know about new trends and can evaluate what is junk and what is good. The consult with other farriers and vets about problems that they haven't dealt with before. Another words they keep learning. The learn that long toe can be bad - independent of what they have learned years ago. They learn how to deal with it. They don't stop learning. They learn something new with every problem horse and figure out how to fix it so it's no long a problem. The really good farriers are like really good professionals in any field - they keep learning their craft and they perfect their craft. If you have one that does that - he/she is worth their weight in gold. Make sure you take care of them when Christmas rolls around ;-) !
