Re: [RC] [RC-Digest] bays vs greys - Elizabeth ChaseThe golden buckskin of the Akhal-Teke..... and those come in all shades from light to copper... Delphi is a copper buckskin, but is listed as a bay on her Coggins papers.. but she has a dorsal stripe, and her sire was a golden golden buckskin. Her winter coat is closer to dun than red. Caleb is a 'lemonade' bay.... he has black points, and is otherwise very dark, but his highlights are a yellow-gold. His winter coat is a dark mahogony red. Now, at age 30, he's flea-bitten grey, which used to be my least favorite color, but I still think he's the most beautiful horse in the world. That being said, I love a bright blood bay, like Cheers. He's a flashy little snot with four white legs. Dezi is grey. Just plain grey, with a few flea-bites. I'm really not a color person, but all my horses (except the sorrel mare I had as a teenager) have been either blood bays or grey. I think if it came down to color--which is a poor way to pick a horse--I would opt for the bay.
