[RC] Everyone does not have the same goal. - Ranelle RubinNice post Liz!Understanding and meeting people "where they are" is the first key to helping them. The second is helping them see where they are. The third is empowering them to want to meet THEIR goals. Sometimes you have to back up and help them discover they may have unrealistic goals, but it is still their goals that, in the end, really matter. The fourth is *finally* showing them how. I recently had a lady want me to help her get into endurance. We agreed to meet for a short ride. My first question was "what are your goals?" I then asked her a series of questions that led her to believe she needed to make some changes to her feed and management program if she wanted to meet her goals next spring. Had I simply TOLD her what to do, she may have gone away with the opinion that I was a "know it all, uppity, B&*%tch" like the last person she asked for help. Instead, she now feels empowered. Big difference.
