Re: [RC] New topic...flash lites - Sisu West Ranch
While not up to the level of the fancy high
candlepower units favored by coon hunters, a standard 3 cell, aluminum
flashlight, refitted with a 2W LED bulb works great for us.
The LED's use much less power than incandescent,
and the beam can be changed from flood to spot. Because of the low power
consumption, a set of alkaline batteries lasts a year or so. We replace
batteries every spring, and keep some spares handy.
The next thing for midnight horse finding
etc. is an LED head lamp. After you find the miscreants, the
headlamp provides great light for the rest of the operation, leaving hands free
for the rest of the stuff.
Rechargeable units are a pain. They can not
be left on charge all the time or the batteries die. Even lithium ion
batteries only have a 3 or 4 year life before expensive replacement is
needed.
