[RC] The Australian solution... even more.... - Jay Randle
Hi All
The ongoing discussion about your LD rides/rules is extremely interesting to me. I have previously told you about our rules here, however I have also occasionally thought that some of your rules would be good to implement too! So, here is what I would consider(JMPO) a great "meeting of the minds".......
NOVICE RIDER
Must first successfully complete 2 x LD rides at a restricted pace (3 hours for 25 miles, no faster!).
Must attend pre-ride information session for LD rides (compulsory).
Must then successfully complete 2 x 50 mile rides at a restricted pace (6 hours for 50 miles, no faster!).
Only after completing these requirements is the rider considered to be an "Endurance Rider" and is then able to go faster (in either LD or longer rides).
ENDURANCE RIDER
May enter either LD or longer rides and ride at a pace of their choosing.
NOVICE HORSE
Must successfully complete 2 x 50 mile rides at a restricted pace (6 hours for 50 miles, no faster!).
ENDURANCE HORSE
May enter either LD or longer rides and be ridden at a pace of the riders' choosing.
Must be at least 6 years of age to enter a 100 mile ride.
This means that riders who have completed the required "Novice" conditions are then able to ride at any distance at any pace, including LD. This is only designed to ensure that the beginning rider to the sport gains an appreciation of the pacing required to successfully get a horse through an LD or an Endurance ride.
This horse could be either a Novice OR an Open horse, but it is the rider that is restricted to the time requirement for their first 2 LD rides and their first 2 Endurance rides.
You will note that the requirement for Novice Riders to complete 2 x LD rides at a restricted pace ONLY applies to the riders.... not the horses! So an Endurance Rider with a Novice Horse can take that horse straight into endurance rides without the need to start him off in LD rides, however the Novice horse is then restricted to a slower pace in his first 2 Endurance rides.
How does this sound?
Best regards
