Re: [RC] The Mariposa protest - part 1 - Sisu West Ranch

"... Filing protests against
non-members would simply multiply the load ..."

Please correct me if I am wrong. I am under the impression that all riders in an AERC sanctioned ride are AERC members. The only difference is that some pay for a yearly membership, and some pay less for a membership good only for the ride day.

Please don't get me wrong, I agree that in general filing a protest relating to a day member is a waste of valuable time and resources. There may be times, extreme animal abuse for example, where it is a good idea . Such a protest may send a clear message to the rest of the citizens of our country that we do all we can to police ourselves. If we do not appear capable of policing our own sport, we may find an outside body (like the government) imposing harsh rules written by persons with hidden agendas. Some organized groups do not like even the idea of riding horses, let alone racing them at breakneck speeds for hundreds of miles until they collapse on the trail.*

*Not my feelings, but there are those who have this concept of endurance riding.
