[RC] Riding double at a ride - k s swigartJamie said: I personaly would never do it but..hell i don't even know if it's "legal" If by "legal" you mean, is it in compliance with the law...that might depend upon the state that you are in, but I don't know of any laws that say it is illegal to ride double. If by "legal" you mean, is it in compliance with AERC rules? The short answer is, yes. There is nothing in the AERC rules that prohibits competitors from carrying along with then anything. The second person on the horse would not be considered an entrant in the ride, but is, in essence, part of the "tack." Interestingly enough, this means that rides COULD (and still be in compliance with the rules) have a second rider (or their dog for that matter) be part of their "total rider weight" but have that self-ambulatory thing go along on the ground along side for pretty much the entire ride. Hmmmm....a way to ride in the HW division without making my horse actually carry the weight....might make for a market in endurance dogs or some such thing. kat Orange County, Calif. :) p.s. Incidentally, this points out one of the absurdities of the AERC's weight divisions as currently written, since there is nothing in the rules requiring the horse to actually carry the required weight for the whole ride (since riders may get off). Why not add the weight division debate to all the other normal winter time RC debates??? :) "Le meilleur que je sais les hommes le plus que j'aime mon cheval."--Catherine the Great =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
