Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] legs - what do you do, multi days - Marirose Six

Polo wraps were designed for that-polo. Theynreally don't provide support but rather they are put on polo ponies to protect them if their leg is struck by a mallet or ball. Also the risk of uneven pressure when left on for long periods of time is fairly great.

I think this is why I have never wrapped my horses' legs, I'm not sure that I would do it correctly.  I have heard that cotton quilts and no bow wraps are good to use.  Is it simply a matter of support, for tired legs?  And, why are polo wraps bad?  Is it because they can be too tight, or perhaps aren't going to be evenly applied?

Thank you, everyone, for the advice.  I know I'm asking very "ignorant" questions about this, but I simply haven't a clue.  And I don't want to do the wrong thing.

It depended on the horse, but most we left them bare legged, and did not do
anything. Some, we would wrap with quilts and cotton wraps, and a few we
would wrap as above, with that blue ice gel stuff. Usually the people
variety, as we could find it in most drug stores. Also, it had depended on
what kind of day the trail had been. Muddy and slick? Extra hard packed?
If you walk around camp at the 5 day rides, you will see a bit of
everything.

If you do not know how to do a correct wrap, or don't have the right stuff
to do them, I usually say "don't". I have been taught that for standing
wraps, use the quilts or cotton, and wrap with the cotton wraps. I see so
many horses done up in pretty fleece polo wraps over night, and that was
always a no-no.
