Re: [RC] [RC] A perfect illustration - Maryanne GabbaniOther than the payback part of the equation, I'm willing to bet that the main issue for the IOC is not the ticket price (though that does help) but how much they can sell television coverage for. The UAE has major coverage of the endurance events because guess who owns the television company...and god forbid a chance to film the big families is missed. But does CBS care? Don't think so.We have an international endurance event happening practically across the street from me on Nov 23..or 21..or is it the 13...no maybe the 19. I promised John and Steph to cover it but so far the hardest part has been to find out the actual date. Publicity for it? Zero, though it is part of the Pan Arab Games. What does the Egyptian federation have to say about it? Not much. They are waiting for the "real" organisers who are from, I believe, Qatar to arrive. I think that it's probably 120 km. I know that they will defy all the rules that we have to follow about antiquities because it's going to be filmed in its excruciating entirety by Gulf television. I'm waiting to see who's riding from Egypt because as far as I know we don't have any seasoned horses on the ground for various reasons. It will be interesting but I've promised to be polite so I won't say anything horrible in public. Maryanne On 11/6/07, rides2far@xxxxxxxx <rides2far@xxxxxxxx> wrote:
