Re: [RC] breeds in endurance and any thoughts on pacers? - Nancy SturmYou will find some people who really love Standardbreds. I think Jon Linderman and Carolyn Burgess both do endurance on Standardbreds. I think it's Earl Baxter who uses Standardbred crosses. Elwin Wine's Misfit was a Standardbred cross as is Terri Tinkhams Oliver Twist (1000+ miles in 2007). Our daughter just retired Ayem Smoke Perdue, an Arab Standard mix. I remember all these names because I am the proud owner of the OT Standardbred Twisted Mister. Twist has a RHR of 26, the temperment of a saint and no desire to do any kind of work at all ever. I think he may have just quit at the track, but I will never know. He is sound (per X-rays and ultrasound), prefers to pace, but can trot and has a wonderful canter.
